For our holiday this year we originally planned to go to Kenya on safari. Unfortunately due to bomb threats, the Foreign Office banned travel to the country. Peru had always been a dream destination for both of us, so we decided to change our destination to Peru. The tour company we used was Peruvian Secrets (www.peruviansecrets.co.uk ), they gave us the flexibility and choice that we wanted, as well as providing us with a private tour, within our price range and a lot cheaper than any other company we could find. They were an excellent company and gave a personal service, they could not do enough for you. There was so much of Peru that we wanted to see, not knowing if we would be able to return. The country consists of 3 different landscapes, deserts, mountain range of the Andes and the Amazonian jungle. This trip involved travelling first to the northern desert area of Chiclaya, down to the south to Puno, Cusco and the Inca Trail, and then onto the Jungle, ending our stay back in desert country of Nazca. We used the Lonely Planet guide during our stay and found it very useful. We felt that it did need updating though. Peru offers travellers a wide variety of activities, plenty of history and archaeological sites, mountain walking and the most amazing wildlife. We wanted to do it all, and on this trip we certainly got a chance to do just that. There are many places that we wished we could have stayed longer, but travelling all over the country takes time, as well as time needed to acclimatise to the altitude. The experience that we had on this trip will stay with us always, the stunning scenery and the friendliness of all the people.
