H. C. Casserley and L. L. Asher

H.C. BRITISH RAILWAYS INSTRUCTIONS TO S&T STAFF

BRITISH RAILWAYS INSTRUCTIONS TO STAFF ENGAGED ON MAINTENANCE OF SIGNALLING APPARATUS

British Transport Commission

A rare British Transport Commission book produced to bring to the attention of staff engaged in the maintenance of Signalling Apparatus the essential features of their work.  First published in 1952 and reprinted in 1961 this book was designed to be read in conjunction with the Rule Book, General Appendix and Signalmen's General Instructions of the day.  Contents include Safety; General Instructions and Mechanical Apparatus.  At the end of the book are two pull out diagrams, one showing the required construction and clearance gauges, the second diagram is a facing point lock and detector gauge.  This small compact book measures 4&¼ inches wide by 5&½ inches tall with 68 pages and was designed to be carried around for everyday use.  Apart from  a stain on the top left front cover the fabric is in a good condition, the inside pages are also in a good condition with a signature and the words S&T INSPECTOR BOSTON written in pencil on the inside cover.  On page 14 a section has a x written in blue ink, I assume to highlight an important section.  This book is ideal for anyone interested in mechanical and electrical signalling equipment maintenance.
