FEATURES AND CHANGES MADE:- Lamp - In the first year since we moved in we had the outside of the house redone. Originally the house was completely rendered, but over time the weather had caused most to peel off on the 2 storey section. We first of all wanted to remove all the rendering, but found that difficult work. Therefore we arranged to have half painted and the other half cleaned of any remaining rendering, finally treating all the brickwork. While this was going on we were trying to decide on a name plate, but nothing seemed to fit well with the style of the house. During a holiday to the Yorkshire dales, we saw the solution. Garsdale station had some wall lights on the platform that we both liked the design of and decided that it would suit the front of the house, and could have the house name in place of the station name.
The lamp at Garsdale was made by 'Heritage Lighting' and to have a replica we commissioned the company to make one for our purposes and have it painted in the LNER colours to compliment the rest of the house. Fireplaces - Each room in the house has a fireplace, all of which are cast iron or varying degrees of condition. The kitchen had a model 1 solid fuel Rayburn that dated back to around 1950. This was essential as the kitchen had no other form of heating and was very useful for cooking. Unfortunately it was getting increasingly impossible to get parts for it, so we therefore took the decision to replace it with a new stove.

Clearview 500 stove At the same time the fireplace in the lounge was replaced with a stove - as I was getting fed up all the dust you get with an open fire! It also meant that the chimney would be lined and we could then burn wood as well as solid fuel.

Morso Squirrel stove. Our favourite fireplace is the one we have in our dinning room. It is a real station fireplace that has the Great Eastern Railway emblem on it. </TABLE
